Bundesliga: Crucial European Battles on Matchday 15

Bayern Munich are running away from the chasing pack, and it feels that they’ll win the Bundesliga again under head coach Vincent Kompany. The Bavarian giants have a nine-point cushion, which they will unlikely squander because they’ve yet to lose a league game this season.

RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are second and third with 29 points each, though they didn’t win their last German top-flight match. Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim are level with 26 points apiece, with the former taking the fourth spot due to a superior goal difference.

With that said, the other 17 teams are merely fighting to be the best of the rest, with the other three Champions League places and two other European football spots (Europa and Conference League) up for grabs. This is the narrative heading into Matchday 15 of the 2025-26 campaign.

Learn more about the top matches of the week here in today’s SBOTOP preview.

RB Leipzig vs Bayer Leverkusen

RB Leipzig vs. Bayer Leverkusen is arguably the top draw in Matchday 15, as it pits together two Top 4 hopefuls at the Red Bull Arena. The hosts are fresh from an upset loss against Union Berlin (3-1), while the visitors are coming off a 2-0 win over Koln.

Ole Werner’s side has won all six of their home games this season, and they can equal their club record of seven consecutive Bundesliga home wins at the start of a campaign, which they achieved in their debut season in 2016-17. However, they’ll miss a handful of players on Saturday night, as Yan Diomande (Ivory Coast) and Amadou Haidara (Mali) will compete in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Kasper Hjulmand’s side has been Germany’s hardest-hit club, with four key players leaving for Africa in Ibrahim Maza (Algeria), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Eliesse Ben Seghir (Morocco), and Christian Kofane (Cameroon).

These two teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw last January, as the Red Bulls stormed back from a two-goal deficit. Choosing the winner of this tie is difficult, but fans can expect their usual dose of Bundesliga 2025 highlights, as these two sides have produced 19 goals in their last four encounters.

VfB Stuttgart vs Hoffenheim

VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim are also battling for European places, and they will meet at the MHPArena on Saturday, too. Both sides are coming off wins, with the hosts securing a 4-0 rout of Werder Bremen and the visitors beating Hamburger SV 4-1.

Hoffenheim has enjoyed a dramatic turnaround this season. After a winless start, Die Kraichgauer have now won six of their last eight to move one point ahead of their Saturday opponents.

However, they will see a familiar face this weekend, as Angelo Stiller is expected to feature heavily in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old German international has averaged 92 touches per 90 minutes while boasting a superb pass completion rate of 90-per cent this term. With Stiller leading the way, VfB Stuttgart are poised to help head coach Sebastian Hoeness achieve his best table finish with the club this year.

These two teams had 1-1 draws in their last two league meetings. Overall, 11 of their 30 Bundesliga matchups have ended in draws, with VfB Stuttgart winning 11 and Hoffenheim eight.

Die Schwaben and Die Kraichgauer will have a player each unavailable for this final game of the year, as Bilal El Khannouss (Morocco) and Bazoumana Toure (Ivory Coast) will compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Betting tip – Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.19

Heidenheim vs Bayern Munich

This Sunday’s game between Heidenheim and Bayern Munich is the classic David vs. Goliath matchup at the Voith-Arena. While Die Bayern are coasting and favoured by the Bundesliga 2025 odds, FCH are fighting for their lives to maintain their top-flight status. Bayern Munich are actually coming off a 2-2 draw against Mainz, while Heidenheim lost 2-1 to FC St. Pauli last Saturday.

Harry Kane has set his sights on Robert Lewandowski’s single-season goal record. As of this writing, the Englishman already has 18 goals in 14 matches, on pace to surpass Lewandowski’s mark of 41 goals in 29 games. There’s more good news for Bayern Munich, as Jamal Musiala has recently returned to team training.

In contrast, Heidenheim aren’t doing so well in the Bundesliga, as Frank Schmidt’s men only managed to win 30 points from 33 matches, with eight wins and scoring 32 goals. Bayern Munich pummeled Heidenheim last season, notching four goals at home (4-2) and away (4-0).
